Senior Engine Programmer, Unreal Cloud Services

ENGINEERING - UNREAL ENGINE What We Do Unreal-powered projects have been on the bleeding edge of real-time entertainment for over 20 years. Our team of engineering experts are always innovating to improve the tools and technology that empower content developers worldwide. What You'll Do Join Unreal Cloud Services, the team behind Lore (Epic's next-generation, open-source version control system built for the future of game development). You'll work at the boundary between editor and cloud, making distributed workflows, collaboration, and version control feel like a natural part of the creator experience. As Unreal evolves toward UE6, you'll help bring these capabilities together into a cohesive editor experience. In this role, you will - Build Unreal Editor features that bring cloud-based collaboration into everyday creator workflows - Implement responsive editor experiences that interact with asynchronous and distributed servi - Work across editor, networking, storage, revision control, and UX systems to make cloud-backed workflows feel natural to Unreal Engi - Partner with Product and UX teams to turn product ideas into clear, practical, and polished editor experiences - Collaborate with backend and infrastructure engineers on features that span the editor and cloud services - Use modern development practices, including AI-assisted programming, to improve implementation, debugging, and iteration What we're looking for - Strong C++ skills and experience working in a large native codebase - Experience building user-facing tools, editor features, and complex interactive workflows - Experience building clients that interact with asynchronous or networked services - Strong understanding of parallelism, networking, latency, and failure handling - Strong eye for user experience and how technical behavior affects creator workflows - Experience working closely with Product, UX, and engineering teams to ship features - Experience with Unreal Engine, another game engine, or comparable tools development - Experience with Rust is a plus EPIC JOB + EPIC BENEFITS = EPIC LIFE Our intent is to cover all things that are medically necessary and improve the quality of life. ENGINEERING - EPIC GAMES SERVICES What We Do Driving the plug-in power behind Unreal Engine 5. We bridge connections for licensees and our own internal game teams to online services. This allows games like Fortnite to utilize a combination of platform online services as well as Epic’s own online services to build cross-platform online features. Login, parties, voice chat, matchmaking, purchasing, cloud storage, and analytics are just a few examples of online features that our Online Game Services team helps games utilize. What You'll Do The Applications Team builds desktop and web applications, as well as supporting online services to power content discovery and digital delivery. Our team of engineering experts is always innovating to improve the tools and technology that empower internal and external developers to deliver their digital content to users across multiple platforms. Whether it be supporting Fortnite, the Epic Games Store, or external partners, we are committed to improving the scalability, efficiency, portability, and stability of our tech offerings. As a member of our Applications team, you can expect to coordinate with a cross-site group of highly skilled individuals. You will have opportunities to architect new features and evolve existing products used daily by millions of gamers, developers, and enterprise professionals. You will partner closely with backend services teams to ensure that the underlying systems we build meet internal and external customer needs. In this role, you will - Focus on the technical implementation and evolution of the Epic Games Launcher desktop application - Be hands-on and use your technical expertise to drive solutions for a range of challenges - Collaborate with other teams (including Product, Design, QA, and Backend Service Teams) - Design, architect, implement, and ship well-documented new features - Improve, and evolve existing tools and features - Maintain and hunt for bugs in existing code bases - Take part in foundational work as we embark on a new chapter for our desktop clients What we're looking for - Experience building perfect experience-focused desktop applications, as well as strong professional experience building production software in Rust - Owned and shipped large initiatives that require coordination across multiple teams - Ability to architect system interfaces and tools - Track record of development on tight schedules with complex technical requirements - Passion for building great user experiences and products that serve diverse use cases - Someone who is user-focused, solution-oriented, passionate, and innovative. Pay Transparency Information The expected annual base pay range(s) for this position are detailed below. Each base pay range is relevant only for individuals who are residents of or will be expected to work within the specified locale. Compensation varies based on a variety of factors, which include (but aren’t limited to) things such as skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, and experience. In addition to base pay, most employees are eligible to participate in Epic’s generous benefit plans and discretionary incentive programs (subject to the terms of those plans or programs).
